C. Elliott Richards

this post is dedicated to my grandpa richards. for the past 3 years he has been gracious enough to let us live in the basement of his home. this has been such a blessing for us. we love it up here... the beauty, the people, everything. we never want to leave this wonderful neighborhood. and we are so lucky to be able to see our grandpa/great-grandpa every day and to be in the presence of such an amazing man.

* 12 things i love about grandpa *

1) his applesauce.

2) that he is the father of 12, grandfather of 69, and great-grandfather of 90.

3) his dedication to his beautiful yard, and to his geraniums that remind him of his sweetheart who passed away 7 years ago.

4) that he doesn't waste ANYTHING. the fact that he has cereal that expired in 2007 and nutmeg from the 60's is incredibly endearing.

5) that he gave us a perfect middle name for our second-born.

6) that he practiced pediatrics for 33 years and has saved us several trips to the doctor. (he once snapped lukey's arm back into place when it popped out of it's socket- just like that.)

7) that he saves newspaper articles he thinks i'd like to read.

8) his willingness to share anything... be it milk, stamps, his car, or his home.

9) the fact that he is 88, plays tennis for 2 hours every friday morning, and is still hard to beat. (he would be playing more if he hadn't ruptured both of his quadriceps a few years ago.)

10) that he proudly served our country for 3 1/2 years.

11) that i can't think of a time when i have heard him pass judgement on anyone.

12) his incredible devotion to his family and to God.

we love you grandpa - thanks for everything.

  3. Lovely post about Grandpa. You should show it to him if you can get him to take a break from the yard.

  4. I've met your Grandpa and agree that he is an amazing man. You are so lucky that Noah and Luke get to spend so much time with him. Not too many kids can say that they know their great-Grandfather as well as they do.

  5. He seems like such a nice person. I met him the other day when the Young's were doing the wedding. He kept asking me questions and being so personable. He has that nice/wise person sparkle to his eye.
